Critical-biographic study of Lima during the 19th century, highlighting the active presence and participation of the women artists. The study includes biographical data of 23 women artists (20 national and 3 international) active in Lima between 1870 and 1918: Teófila Aguirre, Dolores Allende, Maria Teresa Casanave, Emma Coda, Clorinda Corpacho Sánchez, Maria Ducos, Maria Francisca Elguera, Maria Flores y Quintanilla, Carolina García Meléndez, Rosalía García Delgado, Luisa Castañeta, Francisca Magan, Juanita Martínez de la Torre, Rebeca Oquendo Díaz, Elena Ortiz de Cevallos, Valentina Pagani, Angélica Pazos Varela, Clotilde Porras y Ozores, Maria Angélica Quincot Rey de Castro, Rosa Angélica Romero Sotomayor, Aurora San Cristóval Palomino, Inés Sanz, Carmen Solari. The author concludes that despise 19th century genre stereotypes and the omission of their names in later artistic references, many women artists were active in Lima, although its "is difficult to give an opinion on the plastic quality of their work, as is stated in the introduction of this study, not many (works) have been located physically, and is Rebeca Oquendo, without doubt the artist that stands out in the dominion of the technique"-p. 154.
