The present edition integrates the essential reports presented to the INC of Cusco and Lima from the exploratory archaeological campaigns done for three decades and that represent the first documented account of the remains of the architectonic structures of the central and western regions of the "sacred geography of Wiraqochan" (Vilcabamba). During the explorations close to 70 archaeological sites were registered, including a colonial church in Mesakancha, places like Vitkos, Ñust' ahisp'ana, Pinkullunka, Tambo and other sites some never seen before. These sites correspond to the Andean Pre-Inca cultures and to later settlements related to the resistance movement against the Inca Empire lead by Mango Inga (Manko Inka) and his sons. Since the end of the last century the archaeological, historic and ethnological knowledge of the region has substantially grown and recent research has discovered the presence of the mitmaq (colonies of settlers) system. "The descriptions of the different sites is in a basic level of inventory and respond to the objectives of a first approach of the adaptation processes and settlement patterns of the region and here preserve their essence of early draft in a report format"
