Summary: This catalogue is the result of a collaboration initiative undertaken by the Prado National Museum and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden. The temporary closure of the Albertinum Building for refurbishment, the building that contains the Skulpturensammlung at the German museum, means that some of the museums best Classical sculptures will be loaned out over a period of six months. These pieces will be complemented by a selection of works from the formidable sculpture collection owned by the Prado National Museum. It is this aspect, the joint exhibition of two of the best European collections of Classical sculpture, which endows this exhibition organised by the Prado in Madrid with its special and unique appeal. In order to mark the staging of this exhibition, a complete monographic publication has been prepared that tackles various aspects relating to Classical sculpture.
